As it turned out, I didn't have to recite that speech very often, because the person speaking to me would frequently pause and then say something like, "But that's right. Iowa has marriage equality."
In recent months, that positive response has changed. Now, not infrequently, the "Iowa?" comment — which I still get — is followed by: "But didn't they punish the justices who voted for marriage equality?"
That is a problem for Iowa.
