Grinnell College tennis player Dan LaFountaine '09 has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 At-Large First Team. By being named to the First Team, LaFountaine is in the running to be an NCAA Academic All-American. That team will be named next month.

LaFountaine, from St. Cloud, Minn., is playing in the NCAA Division III National Tennis Tournament this weekend. He also qualified for the national event in singles play as a sophomore. LaFountaine owns 164 career wins between singles and doubles play, going 80-13 in singles and 84-15 in doubles. He's a multiple Academic All-Conference selection and helped Grinnell claim Midwest Conference team titles all four years he's played for the Pioneers.

He's been on three MWC doubles championship teams and won one singles crown. In 2009, he is 20-4 in singles play and 25-2 in doubles. The ESPN The Magazine Academic Teams are co-sponsored by CoSIDA.
