New Library System Coming July 2018

After many years using our current library system (Innovative Interfaces), the Libraries will be migrating to a new system (Ex Libris) at the beginning of July, 2018.  This is a massive undertaking and the library staff are already very engaged in the migration process to make it as seamless as possible for our campus.

Why are we migrating?

In discussions with the Instructional Support Committee, we’ve talked about some of our reasons for moving to Ex Libris.

It offers powerful new features that will allow us to more efficiently manage our growing array of print and digital resources, has an intuitive search interface, and allows us new opportunities to collaborate with other institutions in the state.

The U. of Iowa, UNI, Iowa State, Drake, and other key partners are all using Ex Libris and by joining them we will be able to develop new services, like an easy process to directly request items from those libraries.

What will it look like?

This system is highly configurable, so it is difficult to share what our final interface will look like.  However, Carleton College recently migrated to Ex Libris and their installation is one we are considering as a model.  Their system, called Catalyst, appears on the front page of their main library site.
