Grinnell College’s Juan Carlos Perez ’11 (Quito, Ecuador/Martim Cerere) has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week.

Perez, the defending Midwest Conference No. 1 singles champ, had an impressive weekend to say the least with three singles victories and three doubles wins with Dmitriy Glumov. Perez and Glumov, ranked 14th in the region, opened the weekend by defeating the region’s No. 1 ranked doubles team during the Pioneers’ match with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Perez also beat a regionally-ranked foe in singles play during that contest.

He then cruised to a singles and doubles win in a victory over Lake Forest College, and only played doubles against Illinois College but won as Grinnell posted a 9-0 victory. Perez, ranked eighth regionally in singles play, then ended the weekend by beating the seventh-ranked player from the University of Chicago. For the season, Perez is 17-3 in singles and 14-3 in doubles with Glumov.
