Work is progressing well on the Humanities and Social Studies Center (HSSC) and Admission and Financial Aid (AFA) building Phase 1 construction projects. An important aspect of these major campus developments is planning for the department/office moves that will occur as these new facilities come online.

First up, AFA is projected to be completed in October 2018. By November 2018, the Admission and Financial Aid offices should be able to move from their current location in the John Chrystal Center (JCC) to AFA. This will leave approximately 85 percent of JCC available for the next wave of relocations.

Here’s how leadership and the Space Planning Committee have determined the Grinnell College community can best benefit from JCC space opportunities:

  • the Center for Careers, Life, and Service will move all operations to JCC,
  • Registrar and Cashier operations will remain in JCC,
  • transaction counters will remain in the JCC for registrar and cashier functions,
  • partial renovations will be completed to create interview rooms in the lower level and to create a partition between offices and transaction areas to meet confidentiality needs,
  • two Office of Analytic Support and Institutional Research team members will remain in JCC, at least in the interim, while two reside in Windsor house.

Facilities Management will work closely with those who will be relocating to minimize disruption to operations and ensure coordination throughout this process. As construction work progresses and additional move updates are available, those will be shared with the campus community.
