PipeScreams Spooktacular on Halloween

PipeScreams Spooktacular: 9-10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, Herrick Chapel.

Looking for something scary and musical to go with your Halloween treats? How about some spooky organ music in a dimly lit church under the dark of an October night?

On Halloween, join organists Carl Gravander and David Raymond for PipeScreams Spooktacular.  They’ll be playing “fun and scary” music on the organ in Herrick Chapel. The program will include arrangements for organ solo and duet, including Bach’s famous Toccata in d minor, as well as a duet arrangement of Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries.

Grinnell’s organist Linda Bryant arranged Spooktacular after hearing Gravander and Raymond perform during RAGBRAI. The organ was restored in 2009, Bryant said, and “I am always looking for ways Grinnell’s wonderful organ can be heard by lots of people.” Gravander and Raymond are well known recitalists, and they frequently perform duets.

PipeScreams Spooktacular is from 9 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in Herrick Chapel. No tickets are required for this free public event. Treats will be provided, and the audience is invited to come in costume.
