The arts are central to life at Grinnell. Celebrated artists, musicians, dancers, and theatrical groups from all over the world are regular visitors to campus, providing an ongoing stimulus to the entire community and particularly to the 75 percent of students who are actively engaged in one or more arts programs.
The Bucksbaum Center for the Arts is the focal point for much of the programming. Completed in 1999 with a $22 million addition designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli, it provides more than 129,000 square-feet of space for artistic exhibition and exploration. It includes impressive classrooms and studio space, a recital hall,
two theatres, a scene shop and studio theatre.
Two art galleries provide a year-round and multidimensional program of exhibitions,
ranging from the annual Student Art Salon to traveling exhibitions from around the
world.
