- 500 plus free events each year
- 100 student organizations
- State of the art residence halls and student center
- Five-minute walk to town
It is the most engaging of places-a Main Street in Iowa that seems to intersect with
Manhattan. Comfort combined with choice, the approachability of a small town with
the cultural and extra-curricular opportunities of a big city. There are more than 100
student-run groups from Amnesty International to GUMBO-the Grinnell United Mountain
Biking Organization. And if there isn't a group that aligns perfectly with your interests,
you have the opportunity to create one. No limits.
Daily life in the Grinnell community offers a wide range of things to do-movies
at the Harris Center Cinema, parties and dances organized by student groups,
concerts on campus, or conversations with friends at Bob's Underground
coffeehouse. Every weekend there are free campus events and concerts
to choose from. Recent performances have included Cake, Tracy Chapman,
Dar Williams, the Prazak String Quartet, Herbie Hancock (a Grinnell alumnus),
the Bolshoi Ballet, the Afro-Cuban All Stars, and the Ailey II dance troupe.
Thanks to the largest endowment for a college of its size,
and generous alumni giving, Grinnell is able to offer truly state-of-the-art facilities on
a very cool campus. The residence halls are completely networked, the new campus
center will offer cuisine from around the world, and the classrooms, labs, and
research facilities have all the latest materials and technologies. Whatever
the endeavor, Grinnell provides the ideal support and tools to optimize the opportunity.
No limits.
The Grinnell community has no borders.
Everything from the curriculum to the day-to-day conversation
in the residence halls is open-ended in context and consideration.
For those who want to add geographic dimension to that intellectual latitude,
the cities of Des Moines and Iowa City are just an hour away and one can be
in Chicago or Minneapolis within 5 hours. But for most students the 120-acre
campus and town of Grinnell provide more than enough opportunities for exploration
and entertainment.
