Tumela! I am sorry it has taken me so long to write, time just keeps slipping by so fast. I certainly speak for all three of us when I say that we are still having a wonderful time. I am just not sure how you ever could have left. The chance to spend a year at St. Rodrigul is proving to be a great gift. I also want to thank you for contacting our parents, they were all so excited to hear from you.
I really feel like I have adjusted to the rhythms of teaching here, so I am really enjoying it. My load is not as heavy as I had anticipated, so I also have time to get involved with some other activities. I am the class teacher for the Ds, I spend time teaching in the preschool, I started an English club, and we all spend a good portion of our time involved in recreational activities with the students. For Valentine's Day, I organized a poetry reading after school and it was chaotic but fun. The girls really have a talent for writing poetry. To add to the festivities, I also made a bunch of huge, gaudy valentine hearts. The teachers and nuns then all attached them to their chests and sported them around for the day. I ask you imagine Me Batere and the nuns with glitter hearts; it was quite a sight, indeed. Our next project is organizing activities for Moeshoeshoe Day. We are excited and know it will be fun.
Our garden is flourishing, so we have been eating quite well as of late. It has been a fun project for us all. Our garden has also been a source of pride as our friends and neighbors constantly compliment us on our greenery. It also feels good to be able to give little garden gifts to our friends and neighbors.
The whole visa process has given us a chance to get a closer look at how things work here. It always amazes (and pleases) me to see just how patient everyone is. Our hospital experience was fascinating, but I think one visit was enough to satisfy my curiosity forever.
We have had a chance to visit Maseru on several occasions. Maseru really is a fun change of pace from our lives here at St. Rodrigue. We have made many new friends there. We received teaching offers and were interviewed live on one of the radio stations. A couple of our friends have even braved the roads to visit the mission. Many of our Maseru friends have never even visited the mountains prior to meeting us.
The king got married a couple of weeks ago, and, as the whole country was invited, we felt obligated to attend. It was such a grand weekend. Everyone in the whole country was in fantastic spirits. We went to one of the feasts and both the cadets and the rangers were there. The Basotho really know how to celebrate!
I hope all is going well for both of you. Many people still ask about you. We met Ishmael and he said he still wants to attend university in the US to be closer to you guys. What a compliment! Thanks again for all you have done. We think and speak of you both often. Tsala Honcle.
