In order to better prepare students for post-graduation service opportunities such as
the Peace Corps and Americorps, Grinnell College has created the Social Commitment
Preparatory Program (SCPP). This program combines coursework, volunteerism, a
summer experience, and reflective tools to give students both the theoretical and
practical experience they will need to successfully carry out a year or two of
post-graduation service. The SCPP also creates greater opportunities for students
to lead committed, aware, and active lives after Grinnell, and benefits the agencies,
communities, and countries in which Grinnell students work or volunteer after
graduation.
Students enter the Social Commitment Preparatory Program under either the International
or Domestic Track during their fourth or fifth semesters at Grinnell. Students select
which track they wish to enter under based on their future goals and interests.
