Successful completion of the S.C.P.P. includes the following steps:
Reflection is one of the most important and yet least valued areas of the community service experience. The ROCS discussion groups and final paper should serve as a bookend to the SCPP application, helping students to evaluate their journey over the previous two years.
ROCS: As part of their volunteer work, students participate in the Reflections On Community Service (ROCS) discussion groups. SCPP participants who are studying abroad are required to submit three, two-page reflective pieces on the community service work they are carrying out while abroad.
Paper: SCPP participants are required to write a 5-7 page paper at the end of their senior year addressing the general topic of how their view of service work has changed over the last two years, or how this program has prepared them for the future. The SCPP committee will read this paper and interview the student as a final step for completion of the Social Commitment Preparatory Program.
