Externships offer students the chance to explore careers for three to seven days as they shadow alumni sponsors in their workplaces. Alumni share their experiences since graduating: describing how they got where they are, what's worked for them and what hasn't, what they enjoy, and the challenges they face.
Students have an opportunity to gain experience in a chosen field of interest and set learning goals to help in the career exploration process. During this time, students also have a chance to connect with alumni outside the work environment and observe the balance between work and home life.
Alumni open their homes, giving students the chance to see how they integrate their values into their day-to-day lives. Most important, perhaps, is the time alumni and students spend together. Students benefit from alumni experiences; alumni benefit from hearing about Grinnell now!
