Application Process

This is the application process for students who are interested in participating in an internship for Summer 2013 or Fall 2013:

  • Academic credit (Summer or Fall); 
  • GRINNELLINK internships (Summer);
  • Funding to off-set the cost of an internship (Summer only);
  • Academic credit for CPT (Curricular Practical Training) work authorization (F-1 visa students only); or
  • Registering your internship through the Career Development Office.
  1. Review the Internship Application Matrix to determine your eligibility, view the materials you must complete for your application, and to understand the requirements of each aspect of the Internship Program.
  2. Go to the Grinnell College Human Resources Career Site to view the posting details for each application and what materials are needed to successfully submit your application.  
  3. Click the "Apply for this Job" link. You will need to set up an account to be able to apply for any aspect of the Grinnell College Internship Program (GRINNELLINK Internship, academic credit, funding, or registration of an internship).
  4. Complete all the information that is required in the application. The application materials and forms needed for your application are available below. It is advised that you save all your required attachments as PDFs for easy upload into your online application. You can come back to your application at any point if you do not finish it in one setting. Please note that the online application will no longer be accessible following the 11:59 p.m. deadline, so plan ahead.
  5. Once you enter in your initials that certify all the information in your application is true and accurate, you will received a confirmation number. Please keep that for your records. After you receive your confirmation code, you will be asked a few demographic questions.

Application Materials

* You will need to print the forms, below, complete them, and then scan them into PDFs to successfully upload them into your online application (except the Recommendation Forms). Scanners are available at Burling Library, Kistle Science Library, and in the Creative Computing Lab in the Forum. 

Resume - You are highly encouraged to have your resume reviewed by a Career Counselor at the CDO. Save your resume as a one page PDF to upload into your online application.

Unofficial Transcript - You must obtain your unofficial transcript from the Registrar's Office. Transfer students must also upload a copy of their transcript from their previous institution. You can request that your unofficial transcript be emailed to you as a PDF document if you are off-campus. Visit the Registrar's Office website for instructions and to access the request form. If you are on campus, you need to bring you P-card to the Registrar to receive a paper copy of your unofficial transcript and scan it into a PDF.

Recommendation Form - Grant and Endowed funding applications require recommendation forms from two Grinnell faculty members. Please save this recommendation form, e-mail it to your faculty members as an attachment, and then ask them to complete it electronically and then e-mail it as an attachment to internships-cdo@grinnell.edu You will also enter in the name, e-mail address, and phone number of your faculty recommenders within your online application. You are highly encouraged to send the recommendation form to your faculty members as soon as possible so they have plenty of time to complete it and submit before the April 10, 2013 application deadline.

Proposed Budget Planning Guidelines - This document outlines helpful information that you need to create your Proposed Budget for Internship Funding.

Proposed Budget For Internship Funding - Summer 2013 - This document needs to be completed for students applying for funding through a Grant or Endowment Program. Follow the Budget Planning Guidelines instructions (see above) for how to complete this document correctly.  You need to save this document as a one page PDF for upload into your application.

2012-13 Confirmation of Intern Acceptance (includes the College/Agency Memo of Understanding) - This document must be signed by your Internship Supervisor and submitted with your online application. You cannot submit your online application without this document. E-mail correspondence will not substitute as confirmation of acceptance from the internship site.

Grinnell College Intern Waiver, Release, and Indemnification Agreement - This document needs to be signed by both you and your parent/guardian unless you have dependent child(ren), are married, or are over the age of 24.

2012-13 Credit-Bearing Internship Form (only for students applying for academic credit) - This document must be signed by both you, your Faculty Sponsor, and your Faculty Adviser.

Student Learning Internship Plan (SLIP) Instructions (only for students applying for academic credit) - This document outlines the information that you and your Faculty Sponsor need to provide as you work together to create your SLIP.

Student Learning Internship Plan (only for students applying for academic credit) - You need to collaborate with your Faculty Sponsor to create this document that will serve as your syllabus for this experience. Follow the SLIP instructions (see above) for how to create this document.
