Convocation Proposals 2008-09

The Convocation Committee (Lee Running, Rebecca Stuhr, and Mark Montgomery) solicits proposals for convocation speakers for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Scholars' Convocations are presentations of outstanding intellectual or cultural interest that appeal and are accessible to a wide spectrum of the Grinnell community. Approximately six all-campus Convocations take place each semester.

CONVOCATION PROPOSALS

Proposals for 2008-09 are DUE DECEMBER 3, 2007.

Divisions, departments, faculty or staff groups, individual faculty or staff members, or student groups may submit proposals.

In making its decisions, the Committee will consider the person's prominence in the field and reputation as a public speaker, the appeal of the topic to a broad campus constituency, enhancements of the person's impact through tie-ins with courses or programs on campus, the topical balance of the Convocation program overall, breadth of sponsorship, calendar spacing, budget, and specificity of the proposal. The Committee will favor proposals that provide named speakers or well-developed event descriptions over those that are still at an early stage of development.
