Charles E. Powell to serve as Grinnell College's director of development

Grinnell, IA - Grinnell College is pleased to announce Charles E. Powell has joined the College as the director of development. The director of development manages the fundraising team at Grinnell, including planned gifts, major gifts, the Pioneer Fund, and technical support for fundraising.

"Charlie has the knowledge and the experience to lead our fundraising efforts to great achievements," said Russell K. Osgood, president of Grinnell College. "I look forward to collaborating with him as Grinnell continues to work toward its very important goals in this area."

Powell comes to Grinnell from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, where he was the associate vice president for advancement. In this role, he led all Marietta College's fundraising programs, including a comprehensive campaign, the Marietta Fund, and major and planned gifts. Previously, he served as director of major gifts there.

Prior to joining Marietta College, he served as director of major and planned giving at Hollins University, Roanoke. Va., and served as director of alumni activities at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pa., where he earned a B.A. in English in 1969.

Powell has written professionally for publications such as CASE Currents, and speaks frequently about fundraising matters.

Powell started work at Grinnell on July 2, 2007. His wife, Kathleen Powell, has also joined the College. She is the new associate dean and director of career development and graduate service. The couple will reside in Newton.
