SUBJECT SPACE DISPLAYS GRINNELL ART COLLECTION
Selected works from the Grinnell College art collection are the focus of "Subject Space" Nov. 2–Dec. 16, an exhibition in the Burling Library Print and Drawing Study Room at Grinnell College.
"Subject Space: Interiors from the Grinnell College Art Collection" features etchings, lithographs, and photographs that explore interior spaces and spatial relationships and includes works by Albrecht Dürer, William Kentridge, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Christo, and Des Moines artist Amy Namowitz Worthen.
Thomas Agran, a third-year student from Cincinnati, Ohio, organized the exhibition as an intern for the college’s Faulconer Gallery. "The prints in the ‘Subject Space’ exhibition provide a feeling of confinement, intimacy, and admiration of space that opens a new path for engagement with these works from the college’s collection," Agran said.
The Grinnell collection will be on display Sunday through Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the Print and Drawing Study Room on the lower level of Burling Library, located at 1111 6th Ave. in Grinnell.
In addition, "Portraits — Eight of Them," a portrait show by student artists is on display at the Edith Smith Gallery, located in the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center at 1115 8th Ave., through Nov. 16, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. Student artists include: Thomas Agran, a third-year student from Cincinnati, Ohio; John Bell, a senior from Rockford, Ill.; Eleni Tsivitzi, a senior from Litochoro, Greece; Veronica Erb, a senior from O’Fallon, Ill.; Danny Zamora, a senior from Los Angeles, Calif.; Carson Smith, a senior from Quincy, Ill.; Camille Bonham, a second-year student from Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Lindsey Taggart, a senior from Springfield, Mo.
