Byron served most recently as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, IN
for fifteen years. Currently he is a candidate for the Ph.D. in religious studies at
Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
Career Path
"I have M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Vanderbilt Divinity School
(both 1973), including a basic unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at
Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY, in 1973; also 'ABD' in religious
ethics from I.U. I've had all kinds of continuing education experiences
along the way. All my previous positions since graduating from VDS (except for
some very temporary substitute teaching) have been in parish ministry
until 2000, when I became an Associate Instructor at I.U. in religious
studies for two years in conjunction with my graduate study."
Byron's ministry included serving as Pastor of the Central Baptist Church in Hinton WV
(1974-78), as Pastor of the Judson Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, MI (1978-84), as
Minister in a temporary transitional period at the First Baptist
Church, Kalamazoo, MI (1984), and as Pastor/Head of Staff of the
First Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, IN (1985-2000).
Grinnell Experience
Byron majored in economics at Grinnell and notes "membership on Grinnell College
Board of Religion was of some value, as was attending Sunday chapel services."
