Current Position
Since July 2002, Kerry has served as Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Ministries and as
an Associate Pastor at West Lawn United Methodist Church in Reading, Pennsylvania.
"As Associate Pastor, I preach once a month or so, I assist in leading weekly worship, I
visit our members in the hospital as well as occasionally at home. I officiate at weddings
and funerals, and celebrate Holy Communion and Baptism as well. As youth pastor (the
majority of my job) I plan our weekly youth fellowship times, as well as Bible studies,
retreats, and other outings. There is some fund -raising involved and some 'networking,'
and lots of prayer."
Career Path
Kerry completed a Master of Divinity degree in May 2001 from the Lancaster
Theological Seminary (PA), a United Church of Christ seminary. While he was in
seminary, he served as a youth director at a local church. "Prior to seminary, I was a
'Natural Science Associate' at North Iowa Area Community College. I taught chemistry
labs and ran the chemistry and biology stockrooms." Although he enjoyed this work, "I
chose to leave NIACC after feeling called to ministry. I wanted to work with people in a
different venue, in an environment of hope and celebration."
Grinnell Experience
At Grinnell, Kerry majored in chemistry. His extracurricular activities included theatre
and the Grinnell Singers, but he was not involved in any religious activities on campus.
How He Can Help
Kerry says he's happy to offer "whatever I can do--be a pen pal, a shadowee--whatever."
