Two staff members awarded Grinnell Prize Service Fellowship in Ghana with Grinnell Prize winner James Kofi Annan

Congratulations to Tilly Woodward and Caroline Saxton on their selection as Grinnell Prize Service Fellowship recipients, working this summer with 2011 Grinnell Prize winner James Kofi Annan and his organization Challenging Heights in Ghana. In July, Caroline will travel to Ghana and provide administrative support and assist with community outreach programs. In August, Tilly will work closely with children who have been rescued from child slavery on art projects and artistic expression.

Staff who have been involved with the 2011 and 2012 Prize were invited to apply for this competitive fellowship, which was awarded to one exempt and one non-exempt staff member. Applicants submitted a two-page letter of interest, describing their interest in the particular service opportunity they wished to have and stating the personal and professional benefits they hoped to gain from the fellowship. A fellowship grant covering airfare to Accra, Ghana and most living expenses for an approximately three-week period is provided by the Prize Office. Tilly and Caroline will share their experience with the campus via Facebook, the Grinnell Prize web page, and on-campus presentations this fall. The Office of the President plans to offer a service fellowship or similar opportunity with James Kofi Annan or other Prize winners every summer.

Faculty and staff interested in volunteering to review nominations for the 2013 prize can fill out the Faculty/Staff volunteer form on the Prize web site. The review of 2013 Prize nominations will take place in November, 2012. Please contact the Prize Office if you have any questions.

Our 2012 winners will be announced on September 5, 2012. The 2012 winners will come to Grinnell for the award ceremony and symposium the week of November 12. The Prize Office looks forward to sharing more about our winners and opportunities to meet them.

Congratulations again to the Grinnell Prize Service Fellowship winners, Tilly Woodward and Caroline Saxton!
