Updates from the Staff Council:
The open forum for staff to come together and discuss the strategies for enrollment management being debated by the campus community took place the morning of Thursday, November 29. If you were not able to attend, and have comments, please don't hesitate to send them to grinnellsfuture@grinnell.edu. Your ideas are important, and will be considered as the council develops the staff position statement regarding the strategies for enrollment management.
Several recent discussions between members of the Staff Council, the Diversity and Inclusion Council, and the Diversity Roundtable have focused on the hiring and retaining of a diverse staff at all levels, non-exempt and exempt. Not only do we strive to hire a diverse workforce, we would like to retain all of our employees. The council would like to hear from you regarding ideas for retaining staff and encouraging diversity in our ranks. Please send your suggestions to staff_council@grinnell.edu.
Let's Communicate!
Partnering with Communication, we would love your help! Previous surveys have shown that we are all interested in more communication across campus. And we would love to oblige. Part of the Staff Council strategy has been to provide Laurel Leaf updates, but we know you'd like more, and from someone other than the council. Where we get stuck is in deciding how often you'd like to hear information we think would be interesting to all staff. That is where you come in! Please take less than a minute to provide some feedback! At https://survey.grinnell.edu/se.ashx?s=2511374534767FE4, you will find a one question survey soliciting your feedback regarding how often you would like to receive communication, and in what format. And, you'll receive immediate feedback! When you submit your survey, you'll see a running tally of responses. A special thanks to Sarah Anderson, the College's new Director of Internal Communications, for her enthusiasm and support as the council continues to try and encourage open lines of communication across campus.
Bits & Pieces
We are pleased to report that the search for an ombudsman is nearing completion. Look for an announcement shortly! The Council will meet with Raynard on December 11. Let us know if there's any burning question you have, and we'll ask him! Council members Mary and Brent participated in the website user testing, and report it went well. We're looking forward to Grinnell's new web experience early next year.
