Grinnell College and Hospital Exchange for Wellness (CHEW)

Grinnell College and GRMC are teaming up to bring a number of monthly wellness presentations to you throughout the year. Each month, our guest speaker will cover the topic on two different days and times, once on the Grinnell College campus and once on the GRMC campus. Employees of either place may attend either session. We have great things in store for you, from the overmedication of America, how to connect with Millennials, to how to find your avocation or care for your elder relatives. If you have an idea for a topic you would like to know more about, or would like to present, please contact jacobsen@grinnell.edu. Our first presentation is timely: "Understanding the Affordable Care Act" by Todd Linden, Wed., Sept. 5at noon in the Tomasek Room of GRMC and Wed., September 19 at a location to be set at the College.

Program description: The delivery of healthcare in America is changing rapidly with or without the Patient Protection and Affordability Act. Understanding the implications of these changes is important for all Americans during these very uncertain times. In this presentation, attendees will learn the key provisions driving delivery changes, including the most important provisions of the PPACA. Cost, quality and access have always been the important components of healthcare delivery and now more than ever these three areas are hanging in the balance. Attendees will also better understand the implications and special challenges to rural hospitals regarding these changes with a focus on strategies for moving forward with a vision of collaboration and integration with physicians and other key stakeholders. After 24 years as a hospital CEO and active leadership with the boards of the Iowa Hospital Association, the American Hospital Association, the National Rural Advisory Committee to Health and Human Services, Grinnell College, and the University of Iowa College of Public Health, Todd Linden brings both a keen understanding of healthcare reform and its local implications.
