An online survey was conducted through Pioneer Web (April, 2009) by the Office of College Services and Information Technology Services. The purpose of the survey was to generate data to be shared with students and parents who inquire about mobile telephone usage and services utilized by Grinnell College students.

Those who provided responses to the survey (whether they did or did not own/use a mobile phone) were eligible to win one of two $25 College Bookstore gift cards. Survey responses were recorded separately from participants' names. Through random draw, Nick Fitz and Luke Saunders were drawn for the gift cards.

308 responses were received.
Response rate: 19.1%

Service Providers and Recommendation Summary
Of the 308 respondents, 96% claimed that they own and use a cellular phone at Grinnell College. Of these 296 students, 32.5% stated that they use Verizon Wireless service. AT&T Wireless was a close second with 32.2% of respondents with a cellular phone claiming this service provider. Other providers chosen in the survey by a number of respondents included T-Mobile (9.7%) and US Cellular (7%). When asked if the student would recommend their current service provider to a friend, 83.89% of respondents indicated that they WOULD. When respondents were asked if they were satisfied with their mobile service provider as they use it in Grinnell, Iowa, 81.5% indicated they were satisfied.
