A Partnership with Grinnell Community Daycare & Preschool
Background
Established in 2003, the Grinnell Area Summer Camp is a collaboration between Grinnell Community Day Care & Preschool and Grinnell College. The goal is to provide a small, high-quality summer program for school-aged children (k-4) during the business day.
Activities & Staffing
We strive to create a fun atmosphere that is filled with opportunities for social, cultural and intellectual exploration that are not "academic" or "school-like." The program typically involves swimming and daily outdoor activites (cookouts, picnics, etc.) in addition to weekly themed activities such as cooking, science/ecology, arts & crafts, field trips, movies, etc. To ensure a small-scale atmosphere and guarantee that every child develops a personal relationship with the counselors, the camp will accept no more than 30 children each day.
2012 Program Dates and Schedule
- Eleven weeks, beginning Monday, June 4 and ending Friday, August 17.
- The camp is open M-F, 6:30am-5:30 pm.
- Extended care will be offered at Grinnell Community Day Care until school starts, but will not be considered part of the 11 weeks of camp.
- CAMP HOLIDAY: There is no camp on Wednesday, July 4th. A full week’s tuition will be charged that week due to the paid holiday for employees.
Enrollment and Registration
Campers may enroll for 3, 4, or 5 days/week. There is no drop-in enrollment. Campers will be required to enroll for a minimum 7 of the 11 weeks of camp (unless a court order is presented that makes this impossible). Each year, early priority registration is made available to Grinnell College employees and current Community Daycare families. Enrollment is then opened to the general public if space allows. Priority registration will remain open until April 15 or until enrollment is full. THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR FINAL SUMMER SCHEDULE IS MONDAY, APRIL 30. Fees
The weekly fee is $135 for 5 days, $122 for 4 days, $88 for 3 days. Fees are due each Monday for that week. If fees are not paid by Wednesday at 5:30 pm, a late fee of $10 is added. Childcare services may be suspended for nonpayment of fees. The fee is for contracted days, whether your child attends each contracted day or not. Tuition assistance (made possible by United Way) is available on a sliding fee scale according to need. Additionally, a non-refundable activity fee of $125 per child needs to be submitted along with your registration.
Job Openings
