Person in this position will work closely with Grinnell College Education faculty helping them place education students in GHS.  Principal Kevin Seeney has asked that this person also create a "tech help team" of college student volunteers who will help teachers with computer issues.

Grinnell Middle School serves students in grades 5-8.

The Grinnell Middle School program is designed to meet the changing needs of each individual and to provide a transition between elementary and high school education. The GMS staff addresses these needs using a team approach and, in cooperation with other school personnel: Area Education Agency consultants, school board members, parents, students, and our community.

Special Requests:

Person in this position will work closely with Grinnell College Education faculty helping them place education students in classrooms at the middle school. The student in this position is encouraged to work with faculty and staff at the middle school to design and coordinate an enrichment program for children who arrive early to the school building.   The program could be run by a student group one or more days a week from 7:50-8:20am.

The Social Justice Action Group is committed to advocating for service and justice in the community. This group actively strengthens the relationship between the college and the community while examing issues on a global scale. The Social Justice Action Group (SJAG) provides food every Tuesday at 5:30pm for the Community Meal at Davis Elementary. This meal is free of charge and works to provide a hot meal and build community in Grinnell. It's an encounter powerful enough to awaken our deepest concern for animals and their survival.

Special Requests:

This person will work to begin a new student group dedicated to the work of the zoo. The aim is to have a group of 8-10 students volunteering with zoo personnel every other Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm. The students will be helping to design & make enrichment toys & feeding items for the animals and will then have the opportunity to observe how the animals interact with what they've created. After the students have proven their accountability, professionalism, creativity, etc., they will be invited to receive further education from zoo personnel that will enable them to become small animal educators & handlers for the zoo's education program.

Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) is a nonprofit organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities in all 99 counties of the state. Iowa has 11 areas throughout the state that serves nearly 11,000 athletes, participants and Unified Sports Partners annually.

Since 1968, Special Olympics Iowa has been serving the needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing sports training and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports. These programs would not be possible without the generous support of more than 15,000 volunteers.

AIDS Project of Central IA

What is now known as the AIDS Project of Central Iowa (The Project) opened its doors in December 1991, becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1993. The Project has grown and is now the largest HIV/AIDS service and prevention agency in the state of Iowa. Our agency provides personalized direct care services to hundreds of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as provides prevention services to thousands of Iowans at-risk for contracting the disease.
