Grinnell Community Meal

Mission: The Community Meal began in the fall of 2000. The purpose of the meal is to build community and provide a hot meal to those who may need it as well to the community at large. It is served from 5:30-6:15 pm every Tuesday evening (excluding the month of August). The meal is open and free to the public.

Volunteers are always needed to help with the meal, whether is is shopping, preparing and serving food, or cleaning up.

Imagine Grinnell Foundation

Mission: A member-based, grassroots organization that stimulates initiatives to improve the quality of life for people, promote a healthy environment and complement economic development efforts. Created in 1985, the foundation has initiated or supported scores of community projects including the Farmer's Market, the Grinnell Area Recreation Trail, the Galaxy Youth Center, the Iowa Transportation Museum, the Arbor Lake Restoration project and city-wide recycling and beautification efforts.

Volunteers are needed to attend the museum, to serve as docents during public hours, to help with an electronic cataloging project, and for gardening. Hours can be flexible.

STEWART LIBRARY

Mission: Your friendly neighborhood library located downtown and serving community members of all ages.

Volunteers are needed to serve patrons and help with library educational programs such as story hours. Volunteers are also needed for special research projects as they arise.

GRINNELL RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Mission: The Grinnell Recreation Department offers youth sports programs including T-ball, soccer, flag football, basketball, volleyball and track, in addition to other programs and facilities that are open to everyone.

Volunteers are needed mostly as volunteer coaches, team captains in your recreational field of expertise.

GRINNELL HISTORICAL MUSEUM Contact: Dorrie Lalonde or Carol Molison, 236-7827, 903 16th Ave.

Mission: The Grinnell Historical Museum collects and displays artifacts and photographs from Grinnell's past. The museum is open on Saturdays from 2 until 4 from September through May.

Volunteers are needed to attend to the museum while it is open and to do cataloging projects.

Sullivan Bank Weekend Docent Program

Mission: To provide weekend coverage to our downtown historical treasure, the "Jewel Box" Bank, designed by Louis H. Sullivan.

Volunteers: Grinnell Renaissance is always looking for individuals willing to serve as ambassadors and greeters, no tours or memorization required. Shifts are Saturdays 10 am - 1pm and 1-4 pm, also Sundays from 1-4 pm. If you enjoy meeting new people, consider becoming a docent at the Jewel Box Bank.
