The Campus Memo is a Grinnell College internal newsletter published electronically during the academic year by Conference Operations and Events, excluding academic breaks. The first Campus Memo of the academic year is published prior to or during the first week of fall semester classes. The last Campus Memo of the academic year is published no later than two weeks following Commencement.

The Campus Memo is distributed in several electronic formats. It is available online at this website, which has a printable version, and via weekly notification e-mail. The Campus Memo is no longer published primarily in paper form by Grinnell College. Contact Conference Operations and Events for help with printing a copy of the Memo. A limited number of paper copies are distributed to a mailing list. To inquire about receiving a copy, contact Conference Operations and Events.

Deadline for the printed version is noon on Monday. The online version will update daily, Monday through Friday. Submissions must be sent electronically via the online form.

Conference Operations and Events reserves the right to edit all submissions and to reject items that are inappropriate for inclusion.

Conference Operations and Events will not edit for punctuation, spelling or grammar. Please carefully proofread your submission. We suggest that submissions be limited to 500 words or less. Web addresses should be included for further information.

Simply resubmit your entry. The newest entry will override your previous entry.

Notices in the Campus Memo will appear in the order the submissions were received by the online system. If there is an compelling need for an announcement to appear at the top, please email [memo] for consideration.

Events are listed chronologically, beginning with today's date.

They will appear on each date on which they are scheduled with the same description information.

How is the Campus Calendar connected to the Memo and other systems on campus?

 Glad you asked!

The Campus Calendar database serves as the Master Calendar database for campus. Multiple systems use the calendar database to find event information.

Connection to the Memo

The Memo and the Calendar share the following information: Event Name, Event Title, Event Description, Date, Time and Location.

When you place an event entry in the Campus Memo, the Memo grabs all the date, time and location information from the Campus Calendar, but will change/update the Event Name, Event Title and Event Description. If you change the logistical information with Conference Operations to change the Calendar, the Memo will automatically change. (That's why it's never a good idea to put the date, time and place in the entry itself. Then you have to change it in two places!)

Other connections to campus systems:

  • The electronic signs in the Rosenfield Center and Glove Factory automatically pull Event Name from the Calendar to show what is happening in the rooms.
  • The Grinnell College homepage pulls high-profile events directly from the Calendar to show on the sidebar.
  • Facilities Management, the AV Center, Campus Security, and other building managers rely on reports generated from the Campus Calendar database in order to help make events successful.
