Monday, June 10, 2013

7-8:00 a.m.: Breakfast

8-9:30 a.m: Poster Presentations , Grille /Rosenfield Center Lobby

9:45 a.m. – noon: Oral Presentations, Noyce Science Center

Noon – 1 p.m.: Lunch

1:30 – 4 p.m.: Science Workshops

1:30 – 3:00 p.m.: The Value of Research in Student Development: A Conversation with David Lopatto

4:30 – 5 p.m.: Applying to Selective Colleges

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.: Dinner

7:00 p.m.:  Aquatics Center or Alternative Activities

What to expect at the conference:

Students who attend the conference should expect to:

  • Present their research in oral or poster form, with feedback provided by Grinnell College science faculty and research students.
  • Participate in Grinnell Science Project laboratory activities to experience the inquiry-based nature of Grinnell's introductory science curriculum.
  • Visit research laboratories on campus and at the nearby Conard Environmental Research Area
  • Discuss research projects with Grinnell faculty and summer research students.

Teachers/Counselors should expect to:

  • Participate in roundtable discussions with Grinnell College faculty to share innovative approaches to science teaching.
  • Attend presentation by Prof. David Lopatto on assessment of the impact of research on student learning.
  • Hear keynote address by Raynard Kington, President of Grinnell College and former principal deputy director of the NIH.
