April 2 minutes approved with minor revision.
ITS facility discussion: The following recommendation was proposed:
The Instructional Support Committee endorses the ITS plan for a facility to support instruction and research using information technology and recommends that this facility be located on central campus.
Approved. Recommendation will be included in ISC's end-of-year report. The committee will discuss any necessary further action at a later meeting.
Curricular Development proposals:
The ISC discussed each proposal in general. Further information from pertinent faculty members and concentrations is needed before final decisions can be made.
ART: This course is designed to always have a new topic. Since change is constant, the department should allow for expenses in their own budget. This proposal does not fit into the new pedagogy/new initiatives guidelines.
Variable content, regularized courses should be supported by departmental budgets.
MAT/CSC: Faculty member has not taught this course before, though it is a regularized course. The faculty member is using an interdisciplinary approach 1) as a means to incorporate a variety of technologies, and 2) to encourage other faculty to teach this course in the future. Technology Studies supports this proposal.
AFR/GWS: The goal of this proposal is to link various types of analyses that are typically done separately. Helen will contact the faculty member for budget clarification. No response from concentrations at this time.
SPN: One member questioned why the faculty member could not use a CTS workshop to set up the website. The skill level required for this proposal is much more advanced than would be addressed in a short workshop. This course needs to be developed before it can be put online. Helen will contact the faculty member and the CTS for more information on this project.
Africana Studies Workshop: Notices for summer workshops have already been sent to faculty. ISC decided this proposal was too late to be included in this summer's schedule.
