Discussion of ITS developments
John Kalkbrenner distributed information from Bill regarding ITS updates.
Including:
Memo from the Auditor's assessment stating that the College needs to improve its plan for continuity, for instance,
how data will be protected in the case of tornado. John shared current storage policies which includes storing
information both on and off campus. ITS will discuss this issue further.
ITS is conducting a survey of students' use of the wireless network. All new construction will have wireless
access hubs.
Video conferencing is now available in the JCC. Faculty should begin thinking of ways to utilize this technology
in their classrooms as well as ways in which it could be used for recruiting purposes.
CTS search: The position vacated by Munindra will be filled. The ad is currently under review and will be placed
once it has been approved.
The TDC will be evaluated. ISC would like to know if they will be involved since the Center is or can be used for
instruction purposes. John was unsure how or when the evaluation would be completed.
Virus protection: Can it be included in the work at home license? John was unsure of the cost or license agreement
regarding use at home. Some members questioned why the campus server had such a hard time handling the virus
and why it took so long to get the system running again. John stated that catching and cleaning the virus itself is not
the problem. It is the sheer volume of infected files that affects the system's performance. ITS will continue to look
for ways to improve response to viruses.
For next meeting
Will there be targeted items of discussion for next year's committee?
