Conceptions of Space and Place in Multiple Disciplines
This interest group will meet to consider exploring the varied concepts of space and place we address in our disciplines, and the connections that we might make between these ways of looking at locale.
Some questions we might ask are: What are some concepts of locale in science, the social sciences and the arts? How has place addressed historical formations of groups of people? How have writers conceptualized their identities as shaped by their locations? What is the importance of the local in our teaching? How might other fields inform our disciplinary understandings?
With the arrival of our two geographers in the fall, it seems like a good moment to see if we'd like to plan such an investigation. This lunch is an opportunity to chat across disciplines about a new and exciting area of studies.
