Sustainable Energy and the Classroom

The new wind turbine installed at CERA and the exploration of the feasibility of installing a large turbine relatively close to campus have encouraged some faculty members to explore whether there may be interest in developing courses, or units in existing courses, addressing wind energy and other aspects of sustainability. Some of the possible topics for discussion include: (1) how we might incorporate the CERA wind turbine into teaching; (2) how we might incorporate other Grinnell College facilities as focal points for teaching and learning about sustainability (College energy sources and use represent a subset of this conversation); and (3) how we might integrate across disciplines to understand (and increase) the sustainability of local, national, and global systems. We particularly want to encourage collaborative efforts in this and other EKI teaching initiatives.
