VISUAL CULTURE

Visual Culture/Visual Studies "refers to what we have otherwise called art, but is more inclusive and less likely to rely upon value judgments. Visual culture includes imagery in all kind of media, [including] electronic games, sports, fashion, comic books, politics, [etc.]." Visual culture encompasses the use of, and reading of, visual images as texts far beyond the confines of the art history classroom. Lunch discussion will center around resources already in place, faculty interests, and the development of a clearer understanding and employment of Visual Studies across the curriculum.
