GRINNELL COLLEGE invites applications for a tenure-track position in Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, starting Fall 2009. Assistant or Associate Professor preferred; Instructor (ABD) possible.
Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college that seeks outstanding teacher-scholars for its faculty, rewards excellence in teaching, and is generous in its support of scholarship. Our department has a vibrant statistics program that has attracted many students to the field of statistics over the past two decades and has recently benefited from an NSF-supported curricular expansion in applied statistics. The successful candidate will be the second statistician in our nine-person department. The College's curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major. The college values interdisciplinary work, as reflected by college-wide support of the first-year Tutorial (a course emphasizing writing and critical thinking, oriented toward a special topic chosen by the instructor) and its recent move toward greater support for interdisciplinary projects. The teaching schedule of five cour
