GRINNELL COLLEGE- DEPARTMENT OF SPANISH- LATINO/A STUDIES
TENURE-TRACK POSITION (START FALL 2009)

GRINNELL COLLEGE. Tenure track position in Spanish. Specialty in Latino/a Studies with ability to teach Spanish language courses as well as courses on Latin American cultures and literatures. Possible areas of interest and competence may include: Cultural Studies, Ethnic Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Immigration Studies, Linguistics (Spanish in the US), Transnational Studies. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred, Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible. Starting Fall 2009. Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college. The Spanish Department trains students to examine the diverse cultural achievements of Latin America and Spain and enables them to respond with intelligence and sensitivity to a foreign culture. The College's curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major. Teaching load: five courses per year (language courses and Latino/a and Latin America n Literatures and Cultures and/or Linguistics). Every few years one course will be a Tutorial (a writing/critical thinking course for first-year students, oriented toward a special topic chosen by the instructor).

In letters of application, candidates should discuss their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in an undergraduate, liberal-arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction. They also should discuss what they can contribute to efforts to cultivate a wide diversity of people and perspectives, a core value of Grinnell College.
