Leslie A. Gregg-Jolly
Professor of Biology
Grinnell College
Grinnell, Iowa 50112-1690

Leslie Gregg-Jolly is a professor of Biology at Grinnell College. She joined the Grinnell faculty in 1993, is a graduate of Vassar College and holds M.A., M.Ph., and Ph.D. degrees in biology from Yale University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Arizona in Tucson in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. She conducts research on the response of bacteria to DNA damage and teaches courses in molecular biology and genetics, including the ethical and social issues related to biotechnology. Leslie has contributed to the development and implementation of a new biology curriculum and biological chemistry major at Grinnell. Her work in curricular reform has largely focused on developing investigative and interdisciplinary learning, including efforts to better integrate chemistry, bioinformatics and ethics into the biology and biological chemistry curricula.

Leslie recently completed elected terms on the college's Executive Council and personnel committee. During her term on Executive Council, she co-authored a report on increasing diversity that became a component of the college's Strategic Plan. In 2004, Leslie and three of her colleagues at Grinnell devised and implemented a program to help support scholarly productivity by women, called SWAG (Scholarly Women's Achievement Groups). Effective June 30, 2008, she was appointed to a three-year term as associate dean of the college.
