I have taught at Grinnell College since January 1998 in the Department of Religious Studies. I have also taught in the Gender and Women's Studies Concentration since 2000.
In 2007, I was appointed to the Associate Dean's office by former Dean Jim Swartz. In the Dean's office, my portfolio includes areas of faculty and student concern borne out of my career obsessions: Diversity, First Year (and now Second Year) Experience, Advising, and Faculty and Student Achievement. I believe that what makes Grinnell College great is our inventive liberal arts program and a tradition of shared commitment to social justice. I believe our next task is to refocus that commitment, to aspire for high achievement and reciprocity among all campus constituencies, and to achieve a national reputation for our College and its extraordinary tradition.
My research focuses on contemporary religious thought and political theory. My current work in progress focuses on theological critics of John Rawls, and on William E. Connolly's engagement with Augustine of Hippo.
I love teaching, and, while serving in the Dean's office, I have offered occasional classes at Newton Correctional Facility, served as Chair of the Gender and Women's Studies Concentration, and continued to advise students. I will team-teach a course on Human Rights with Prof. Wayne Moyer in Spring 2010.
I live in Grinnell IA with my three children and Janet the cat.
