At this time the design set/cost estimate is at 25%. By the end of January the design set/cost estimate will be at 50%. Drawings are sent to each contractor and they give conservative estimates for each bid. Contractors will pad the bid to make sure to cover costs. Each bid is discussed with the contractor to answer questions/concerns and get a more accurate bid. Every bid must be supported by an invoice. The architects need to make sure work is done efficiently. More detailed issues will be reviewed.

Graphics and signage are a big issue now, especially in the dining hall. Information is being gathered to define the signage area. Communication and Events wants the building to be active in the summer. There's an LED screen tied to the campus schedule which maybe used in one to three areas. Plasma Screen may also be used. There needs to be further discussion about the intent of Communication and Events in regards to signage. Discussion followed about how students would view glossy signage. The Committee decided signage should be a lower priority. New office furniture was discussed. Students don't want building to look like a corporate structure.

An energy model will be produced for the entire exterior building components. The architects will be looking at every component in the building; insulation, exterior materials, etc. There will be a balance of cost/efficiency versus energy/efficiency. The pulper for the dining hall was discussed in regards to composting.

The issue of selling sundries at the campus center was discussed. There's 1800 square feet of residual space in the lower level for future use. A larger dining area for student groups was discussed. The dining pavilion area is an option. The architects will return to campus the first part of February.
