Those present were: Tom Crady, Bob Cadmus, Sheree Andrews, Linda Price, Frank Thomas, Brian Turner, Eli Zigas, Joseph Oppong, Becca Stumpf, Dick Williams and Michael Sims.
Darin Cook and Phil Nelson were here from Cesar-Pelli and as was Al Moeller from Thomas Ricca.
There's no open forum this time. The architects will meet with the fire marshal on December 12 in Des Moines. Tom will join them for this meeting. The architects will return the end of January. The next design will be at 50% development which should be done by the end of February. The architects will now look at the budgets, furniture fixtures, equipment, etc. Information regarding landscaping is also in progress. Interior materials will be presented. Audio, visual, voice and computer needs will be addressed with a mechanical engineer. The mechanical engineer will look at all the equipment for the building.
A Green Round Table meeting will be held to evaluate the goals of the college for the project. There is a LEEDS meeting tonight (12/11). Tom would like to organize a trip to St. Olaf, Mcalester, Oberlin and Gustavus Adolphus to look at their dining halls for the end of January or first part of February.
Changes to the building include squaring the gallery walls with peepholes and glass into the gallery. There will be exterior seating on the north side of the building, out from the dining room for outside seating. A basement storage area was added along with skylights to the bakery and craft workshop area. The glass in the skylights will be safety glass. Safety issues of having skylights were discussed. The bakery wall will be extended about six feet in the basement. There were not many changes on the second floor. Meeting rooms will also double as classrooms. Storage space has been assigned to those areas. The third floor plan for student affairs was finalized. Computer labs in the campus center were discussed. There will be an e-mail lab on the first floor. There will be no dedicated computer labs in the campus center. A committee member felt labs should be in other places. This building should be viewed as non-academic. There was some discussion of having printers in the e-mail lounge.
Al talked about the servery. Space was added on the north side for waffles and soft serve ice cream. Stations will be moved to get the best layout for traffic. The traffic flow of the servery was discussed. The seating configuration was discussed. A student voiced a need for larger tables. The furniture in the dining area was also discussed. Students wanted padded chairs in the dining hall. Noise in the cafeteria was also addressed. An acoustician will evaluate the noise on all levels. There were unresolved issues with the grill and those were resolved. A large variety of food options will be available. Recycling stations were also discussed. Recycling will be incorporated into the servery. The second floor will only have a beverage station.
Everyone needs to review the drawings. The building model is in the Forum grill along with a box for comments. Input is wanted from all of the campus community about the design/layout of the campus center. Students can now visualize the building layout. Parking was also discussed. The question was asked if there would be enough parking with the new dorms in that area.
The energy usage issue was discussed in the cafeteria. Al was confident any energy saving that could be done would be done. Not all the food stations would be running at the same time, only at peak times. General discussion followed ending the meeting.
