Awarded for outstanding academic achievements, the Trustee Honor Scholarship is merit assistance and does not have to be repaid. It is renewable for three additional years provided a cumulative GPA of 2.75 is maintained. If you are receiving grant, loan, or employment assistance in addition to the Trustee Honor Scholarship indicated on your award notification, you must complete Grinnell's regular application process by our published deadline each year. Once you have paid your deposit, a special certificate for the Trustee Honor Scholarship will be sent to your high school principal for presentation at graduation or honor ceremonies.
The Bowen Scholarship was established in 1987 to honor Dr. Howard R. Bowen, president of Grinnell College from 1955 to 1964. The Bowen Scholarship competition is open to all Iowa high school seniors who are United States citizens and wish to attend Grinnell College. Recipients are selected on the basis of a scholarship examination and an on-campus interview. The examination follows an essay format covering a broad range of topics in the arts and sciences prepared by Grinnell professors. Each year, based on the examination results, 15 students are designated semi-finalists and invited to campus for an interview. Five winners are selected and awarded the Bowen Scholarship. Each Bowen Scholar will receive a maximum of full tuition per year (approximately $100,000) depending on demonstrated financial need. A Bowen Scholar who shows no financial need will be awarded $15,000 annually ($60,000 total). Bowen Scholars receiving grant, loan, or
employment assistance in addition to the Bowen Scholarship, must complete Grinnell's regular application process each year by our published deadline.
As a collegiate partner, Grinnell matches noncorporate, local chapter Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America awards up to $500 the first year only.
Awarded to an incoming student who indicates an interest in chemistry, this award is renewable for three additional years.
Established in 1983 to recognize local graduates, this scholarship is renewable for three additional years. If you are receiving grant, loan, or employment assistance in addition to the J.B. Grinnell Scholarship indicated on your award notification, you must complete Grinnell's regular application process each year by our published deadline.
Awarded to National Merit finalists who list Grinnell as their first-choice on the National Merit Corporation's application, this $2,000 award is renewable for three additional years.
The Rosenfield Scholarship was established in 1987 by Joseph F. Rosenfield, Grinnell College Class of 1925, to provide scholarships for Des Moines students to attend Grinnell. To be eligible for consideration for the Rosenfield Scholarship, a student must be currently enrolled as a senior at one of the following high schools:
- Dowling High School
- East High School
- Hoover High School
- Lincoln High School
- North High School
- Roosevelt High School
- Urbandale High School
- Valley High School
The Rosenfield Scholar chosen from each school will receive up to a maximum of $15,000 per year ($60,000 total) depending on demonstrated financial need. A Rosenfield Scholar who shows no financial need will be awarded up to a maximum of $7,500 per year ($30,000 total).
To apply for the scholarship, the applicant must complete the application for admission to Grinnell by the published deadline for Early Decision I, November 20; Early Decision II, January 1; or Regular Admission, January 20. In addition, the Application for Financial Aid and Scholarships, part of the standard application for admission, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed by February 1. Rosenfield Scholars receiving grant, loan, or employment assistance in addition to the Rosenfield Scholarship must complete Grinnell's regular application process each year by our published deadline.
The award covers a percentage of the tuition portion of our comprehensive fee and applies only to on-campus study and Grinnell-in-London. It is not available for other study abroad or elsewhere in the U.S. In addition, this award is based on your parent's continued employment at a participating college. Eligibility determination requires that the employed parent contact his or her home college to complete the required official paperwork. Any change in employment status must be reported to our office immediately. If you are receiving grant, loan, or employment assistance in addition to the tuition remission indicated on your award notification, you must complete Grinnell's regular application process each year by our published deadline.
The award is the amount authorized by the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) Tuition Remission Exchange. If the amount changes, we will send a revised award over the summer. The award is based on your parent's continued employment at a participating college. Eligibility determination requires that the employed parent contact his or her home college to complete the required official paperwork.
