Position: Curricular Technology Specialist in Natural and Social Sciences

Search Summary: Grinnell College, a residential liberal arts college, seeks a Curricular Technology Specialist (CTS) to support faculty use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning in classroom settings and as a supplement to the classroom.
Responsibilities: This CTS develops collaborative projects with faculty to enhance teaching and learning involving techniques such as statistical analysis, GIS, survey design and analysis, data visualization, and database design and maintenance. The person will work closely with the College's data librarian and digital asset managers and also collaborate with Information Technology Services personnel and Academic Support specialists. In addition, the person works as part of a team of CTSs supporting instructional technology applications, training, and course development campus-wide. The CTSs serve as consultants, advocates, and classroom support teachers for technology applications that serve teaching and learning goals of Grinnell's faculty members. They work with faculty members, librarians, and administrative staff to further the educational mission of a residential liberal arts college, offer creative workshops for faculty members to encourage advancements in teaching and scholarship, contribute to
maintaining an effective curricular technology infrastructure, and engage with the broader curricular technology community nationwide. The CTSs report to an Associate Dean of the College and to the Director of Information Technology Services (dual report). Qualifications: Graduate degree preferred, Bachelor's degree and experience possible; academic background or professional experience in a science discipline required; a demonstrable record of experience and expertise in instructional technology; excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills; an ability to convey technical concepts effectively to different constituencies at a level appropriate to the audience; and an understanding of the mission of a liberal arts college. Expertise in more than one of the following areas is required: scientific instrument support, statistical analysis of large data sets, spatial analysis, relational database design, data visualization, and scientific modeling. Preferred: teaching experience; experience working with faculty integrating technology into the curriculum.
