The outside reviewers have agreed to base their on-campus conversations on the following list of questions.
Policies and Practices
- Are our policies and procedures in regard to staff hiring and, performance reviews (and any subsequent steps)
- appropriate for Grinnell College,
- consistent with best practices at liberal arts colleges, and
- reflective of the goals expressed in strategy 2 of the strategic plan?
- Are we (particularly, supervisors) implementing our policies and procedures in this matter as effectively as we could?
- In particular, do supervisors and staff find the review process useful for providing useful and actionable feedback?
- Can we improve these policies and procedures in regard to facilitating the diversity of the college staff?
- Are our appeal and grievance procedures appropriate for Grinnell College and consistent with best practices at liberal arts colleges?
- Should the college have an ombudsperson to address grievances pertaining to hiring, reviewing, and disciplining staff members?
- Is the college's timeline between review, discipline, and dismissal consistent with peer practices (understanding that different circumstances call for different timelines)?
