Opening Office 2007 Files in Office 2003
ITS is in the process of installing the converters necessary to open Office 2007 files in Office 2003. All public labs have been equipped with the software for the start of the Fall 2007 semester. If you need to open these new formats of documents, you will need to install the converter on your machine. To manually install the converter:
Click Start, then Run...
Type '\\storage2\software\public\2007Converter' (without quotes)
Double click the FileFormatConverters.exe file
This will launch the program which will install the converters on your machine. Accept the defaults (click Yes, Accept, or OK at each screen) and it will finish installation shortly. At that point, you have the converters installed, and you can open 2007 documents.
If you are trying to open a document prior to installation, you may receive the following dialog box:
![]() |
This also will install the converter, through Microsoft instead of our local installation point. This is OK, and will eliminate the need for you to run the installer as described above. As always, if you have any questions, contact the Help Desk at x4400 or a member of your support team.
