This committee is now in the next stage and is now called Information Technology Assessment Planning.

Grinnell College information technology assessment and planning project

August 2010

An information technology planning process will be taking place during the 2010-2011 academic year. The Board of Trustees has expressed interest in computing resources and the effective use of information technology on campus. A recent recommendation adopted by the Board of Trustees states:

"Identifying information technology opportunities, impacts and cost is a substantial challenge; therefore, the Audit and Assessment Committee recommends that the College employ external expert services to assess the current status of these assets and to recommend actions that might be taken to ensure that the College is discharging all of its information responsibilities effectively and economically. The results of this analysis will form a strategic plan for Grinnell's cyber-infrastructure and its role in the College's manifold activities."

The Board of Trustees has asked me to lead this effort. To that end, I have formed an ad hoc committee to help guide a process that will ultimately produce an information technology plan for the College. That committee is the Grinnell College information technology assessment and planning committee (gcitapc).

The process will entail soliciting and selecting outside consultants who will assess the College's current information technology cyber-infrastructure to support both academic and administrative programs at the College. From their analysis and with considerable input from the Committee, they will help develop a long-term strategic plan for information technology at the College.

Having a long-term strategic plan for information technology at Grinnell College will help the College provide appropriate and consistent technology resources to help the College fulfill its mission.
