Password Criteria
Listed below is information regarding the requirements ITS has implemented for passwords to access our network.
We encourage you to use our web-based network password resetting utility, https://passwordreset.grinnell.edu, to help you manage your password. However, you should be aware that PasswordReset does not check all criteria below when testing your password. The exceptions are noted with stars.
**When using the PasswordReset Testing utility, it does not verify the Min Password Age or the Password Uniqueness criteria.
| Criteria | Value | Explanation |
| Minimum Length | 8 chars | Your password must be at least 8 characters long |
| Maximum Length | 32 chars | Your password must be 32 characters or less |
| Must Contain Number | Yes | Your password must contain at least 1 numeric character |
| Max Password Age | 190 days | Passwords will expire every 190 days |
| Min Password Age** | 5 days | You may reset your password only after 5 days has elapsed |
| Password Uniqueness** | last 5 | You cannot use, as your new password, any of your last 5 passwords |
| Do Not Allow Username | Yes | You may not use your username within your password |
| Do Not Allow Part of Name | Yes | Your password may not contain any whole words from your full name |
