Register Your Mobile Computer for Wireless Access on the Grinnell Campus

Each mobile computer has a wireless card or wireless network adapter with a unique 12-character address. This 12-character address needs to be retrieved from the card and registered to use wireless technology on the Grinnell campus. Below are several ways to retrieve this address:

1) Look on the back of the card for the MAC ID#.

2) Windows 95/98
Click Start. Click Run.
In the Open: box type winipcfg.
In the dialog box select the correct ethernet card and write down the MAC address.

3) Windows 2000/XP
Click Start. Click Run.
In the Open: box type cmd and Click Okay.
At the c:\> prompt type ipconfig/all.
Locate Ethernet adapter heading for wireless card and write down the physical address.

4) Macintosh OS X
Click on Apple in upper left hand corner
Select "About This Mac"
Select "More Info" button - this opens System Profiler
In left column, find "network" and click on "airport card"
You should now see your airport mac address in viewing area to the right
