Jonathan brings to OCS a range of international experiences as an educator, scholar, administrator, and adviser. He has taught courses on anthropology, language, and Eastern Europe at Grinnell, the University of Iowa, and Miami University of Ohio. He has also taught English, German, and theater abroad; studied at a foreign university; and participated in several kinds of exchanges. He is fluent in Slovak and German, and has done coursework in several other languages. In addition to serving as an administrative director for GIL and GIW, he advises students on other off-campus programs and assists with the college's international programs.
Jonathan's academic research has focused on issues of language, politics, knowledge, and history in East Central Europe, and has been funded by several fellowships. His book Critical Thinking in Slovakia after Socialism has been published by the University of Rochester Press in 2013.
