Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) Program in Cape Town, South Africa features courses with South African students at the University of Cape Town and field placements with NGOs. 

 

  • Location: Cape Town, South Africa
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Courses: Service-learning in NGO in environmental management, social and economic or health care and community development; two to four University of Cape Town courses.
  • Subject and themes: Anthropology, Economics, Environmental Studies, Global Development Studies, Global Health, History, Literature, Mathematics and Statistics, Natural and Applied Sciences, Political Science, Sociology     
  • Field trips: Excursions in the Western Cape; trip to Johannesburg and Kruger National Park.
  • Housing: Apartments shared with program students in local neighborhoods.
  • Prerequisites: All majors. GPA minimum-3.0. Strongly recommended: History 261 and/or other courses including study of South African history, politics, culture, and society.
  • Calendar: Fall (July – November) and Spring (late January – June)
