Associated Colleges in China (ACC) in Beijing
-
Associated Colleges in China, an intensive language program offered by Hamilton College, is hosted by the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing.
-
Courses are offered in intermediate and advanced Chinese. Students intending to begin their second year of Chinese with ACC must begin the program in the summer term, since that is the only time when second semester Chinese is offered. Students beginning their third or fourth year of Chinese may enroll in the summer, fall or spring terms.
-
In addition to intensive individual and small group language instruction, courses are offered in modern Chinese society, literature, history, philosophy, and cinema. Students participate in language practicums in which they are required to use their Chinese outside the classroom with local citizens through information-gathering and interviews.
-
Extracurricular activities such as calligraphy, cooking, and tai chi are also provided and encouraged. In the interest of total immersion, participants are required to sign a language pledge that only Chinese will be spoken while on the program.
-
In additional to weekly local excursions in Beijing, several longer field trips are offered to places of cultural interest in various parts of China.
-
Students are housed in dormitories and assigned to a host family whom they may visit during weekends.
-
Eligibility: intermediate level Mandarin Chinese.
