Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) at Waseda University in Japan

 

  • The ACM Japanese Study Program is located on the campus of Waseda University, one of Japan's premier universities, and emphasizes the study of Japanese language and culture.
  • Morning classes are devoted exclusively to language acquisition, and assignments often take students out into the local community to practice their skills. Additional classes in English are offered in social studies, arts, and humanities, covering various topics in Japanese and Asian Studies.
  • Independent study in the form of social research projects, apprenticeships in fine arts, and parliamentary internships can be arranged with the support of the student's home college academic adviser.
  • A range of field trips is offered, including a visit to Kyoto.
  • Extracurricular activities, especially membership in Japanese student clubs and sports teams, are encouraged.
  • Students live with host families throughout the program in Tokyo and also participate in a month-long rural homestay.
  • Eligibility: At least one semester of Japanese. Minimum 3.0 GPA.
