South India Term Abroad Program (SITA) operates in the temple city of Madurai in the southernmost Indian state of Tamil Nadu, one of India's most important centers of religious pilgrimage. 

  

  • Location: Madurai, India
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Academics:  Required: Tamil Language, Ethnographic Field Methods, and Independent Study.  Two electives: Environmental Issues in South India; Media, Culture, & Urban Identity in South India; Modern Indian Fiction; Myth, Religion, and Art in South India.
  • Field trips: Various sites in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka
  • Housing: home-stays
  • Prerequisites: None.  Minimum 3.0 GPA.  Coursework on India, especially religious studies
  • Calendar: Fall or spring semester.
